There are many wonderful things that come with fall…..cooler weather, vibrant colors, football, pumpkin patches…the list goes on and on. But there is one thing that comes with fall that many of us don’t like….and that is the increase in illness. With school back in session and more time spent indoors as the weather changes, germs begin to spread quicker.
Here’s a few of our Everyday Helper favorite tips to help you and your family stay healthy this fall:
- Sanitize, sanitize, sanitize. Make it a daily habit to wipe down all of the surfaces in your home. This includes counter tops, light switches, door knobs, remote controls, computer keyboards, toilet handles, and so on. Anything that is frequently touched in your busy home should be cleaned regularly.
- Dust. I know, dusting is probably not your favorite chore around the house but it’s an important one as the cold and flu season approaches. Dust can contribute to a wide array of health problems from respiratory problems, to increase in asthma and allergy symptoms. As you’re dusting your every day surfaces, don’t forget to dust those ceiling fans, vents, and other overlooked areas in your home.
- Wash your bed sheets and towels regularly! Dust, dander, sweat, oils, and skin cells collect on these items regularly. Even more so if you have pets.. Make sure you wash your bed sheets weekly and switch up your bath towel every day or two.
- Regularly clean or switch out your kitchen sponges and dish towels! Sponges especially can carry thousands of germs, food-borne pathogens, and possibly even mold if not cleaned and stored properly. Cloth dish towels can carry unhealthy microorganisms. Make sure you replace your kitchen sponge regularly, or place it in the dishwasher on a high temperature wash weekly. Also a good idea to squeeze it all the way out after each and every use. As for those dish towels-don’t forget to change them out every few days!
Those are 4 of our recommended tips to help you and your family stay healthy all season long! We also recommend a good thorough cleaning of your home top to bottom on a regular basis.
