My name is Kelly Sedlacek, and I am the owner of Everyday Helper. Born and raised here in the Coralville area, this is where I call home. I’d like to give back to the community by providing caring, affordable services to help families.
Some of my clients live in other states, and hire me to run errands and spend time with their loved ones because they can’t be here. Other clients live in the area, and just want to provide their pet a walk in the afternoon while they’re at work, or they need me to pick up a birthday cake. I love the challenge of helping people make their days less stressful.
I’ve loved the business world, and I’ve loved helping others since childhood. Through high school and college I saw myself working my way through life climbing up some management career ladder. I graduated from college with a degree in business management.
Then in 2015 one of my grandmothers began moving in and out of the hospital and care centers as she struggled with failing health and required more and more assistance to complete everyday tasks. I recall a conversation I had with her a few months before her passing in May of 2015 when she told me “If only there were more darn affordable services available, I wouldn’t have to be cooped up in these buildings.”
Those words stuck with me and aided in me starting Everyday Helper. That was when I decided that I wanted to do more with my life than just working around the clock for the next promotion, higher pay, and eventually the biggest office in the building. I wanted to combine my two loves and do work that I am truly passionate about. I think she would be proud of me and the work I am doing today!
While I originally started the business to provide companion care and errand running services, we quickly began expanding. We now offer a variety of services like planning birthday parties, taking kids to gymnastics, and providing day time pet-walking or weekend pet care.
This business is my childhood dream that has become a reality. Each and every day I get to do work that I am passionate about; I get to help others in a variety of ways. My passion and mission with this business is to be able to provide a variety of services at rates that are affordable to any and every one.
In June of 2015 I kept it a secret and decided to start the process of launching Everyday Helper and in July of 2015, we officially began serving clients! It has been a crazy, busy, and exciting first year in business! From participating in charity drives, to being in the 4th fest parade in Coralville, to being on KCRG TV-9, I’ve had a lot of new experiences this year! And because of such amazing supporters and clients, I’ve made a lot of great memories over the year too.
On top of growing Everyday Helper this past year, I also wrote and published my first book as shown above! In July 2016, “Lessons from Living with Crohn’s Disease” was released. If you’d like to learn more about that endeavor of mine, check out www.kelly-sedlacek.com.
As if running, growing, and working for Everyday Helper doesn’t keep my going enough, I also still work a part time retail management job, and am currently in a Pilates instructor training program with the hopes of officially teaching early next year! When I take some time away, you’ll likely find me spending time with family and friends, my dog Sophie, biking, running, or doing something outdoors!
I am so grateful to get to do what I love on a daily basis. I love working with my clients and their families and I’d love the chance to work with you and yours as well!
